About us

We built The Rishta App for desi Muslim families in the West who approach marriage as a serious religious and family commitment — not a casual social experience.

Our mission

To provide a dignified, structured environment where marriage-minded desi Muslims — and the families who search alongside them — can find one another, with the wali warmly welcomed to watch over a woman's conversations, and with every profile reviewed by a human before it goes live.

We believe a matchmaking app for our community should reflect Islamic values in its design, not just its marketing copy. That means the mechanics of how interest is sent, how conversations begin, and how photographs are shared are all built around the principles of family involvement, wali oversight, and mutual respect.

Family-first, wali-welcomed

A conversation never opens until the person who received the interest welcomes it — she decides for herself who to talk to. When she has linked a wali — her guardian, as recognised in Islamic tradition — he can see her conversations and end any of them at any time, so her family stays close throughout. The wali watches over her; he does not approve who reaches her and does not take part in the messaging. A wali is the trusted, warmly-encouraged default, but it is hers to choose.

This is not a restriction bolted on top of a conventional dating app. It is the structure from which everything else is built.

Verification and moderation

Every profile is reviewed by our team before it is visible to others. We look for completeness, sincerity, and adherence to our community guidelines. Profiles that do not meet our standards are returned with feedback, not silently removed.

Privacy

Women's photographs are not publicly visible by default. They are shared only with premium members, and only when the woman chooses to reveal them. Women can adjust this setting on their own profile at any time.
